On Saturday, November 9, 2024, SWAN – Swiss Women’s Audiovisual Network will host a discussion with director Agathe Riedinger, after the special projection of her debut feature „Wild Diamond“ at Cinérama Empire within the framework of the GIFF – Geneva International Film Festival.
Agathe Riedinger is no stranger to dealing with the society of appearances from a female point of view, having already placed this highly topical theme at the heart of her short films. For her first feature film, the French director extends this reflection on the exposure of women’s bodies through the story of Liane, a young 19-year-old influencer whose ambition, but above all her need to be loved, drives her to audition for a reality show.
Hosted by SWAN’s committee member Delphine Luchetta, the post-screening talk will provide insights on the fascination exerted by reality TV and social networks, and the values they convey such as the hypersexualization of women and rape culture.
As an introduction to the event, SWAN’s committee member and GIFF’s program coordinator Lucie Emch will briefly read and comment the GIFF’s annual gender statistics, to follow up on the festival’s commitments, after the signature of the SWAN’s pledge last year.
Spoken in French.
Admission is free for GIFF accreditation and pass holders.
Single tickets can be purchased on the GIFF’s website or at the festival’s ticket offices (Salle communale de Plainpalais or Les Cinémas du Grütli).
