She goes for animation @Fantoche 2020

02 September 2020 18h00 – 19h30, Rampe Café & Bar

This 2020 edition of Fantoche was dedicated to women’s voices. SWAN partnered with the festival to organise the panel „She goes for animation“. The sparse numbers of women directors overall were mentioned, the lack of gender data in animation, as well as the importance of a support network for animators out of school. Issues debated were the difficulty of finding women key crew members, the gender gap between features and shorts (although some directors stick to the short medium by affinity), and the blackhole where women disappear after film schools. The panel speakers and moderator also gave their personal testimonies on how they drive their career and their work.

Moderator: Screenwriter and SWAN co-president Stéphane Mitchell

Speakers: Fantoche president and ex-Swiss Parliament and Senate member Christine Egerszegi-Obrist, and Swiss animation directors Anja Kofmel and Sophie Laskar Heller.
